Day in the Dust Patch (Feb 23 2016)

I didn’t sleep much – too busy scratching at bites all night. At least it was nice and cool.

Big Dog doesn’t want to move yet. It will be nice to stay put and regroup after yesterday’s road to nowhere. I am happy to be somewhere with WiFI, electricity, showers and toilets – camp life makes small, ordinary things seem like Very Special Luxuries. The other campers have moved out so we shift to their place and spend most of the day writing and reading. It’s a lazy day.

DSC05846Big Dog pulled out the badminton set earlier, hoping to get a game in, but now it is too windy. I was hoping to go for a swim but the swim class arrived and stayed until sundown so we just sat around, watching the parents drop off their kids and then pick them up. It’s cool how local dads (especially – somehow more than moms, strangely) want to introduce their kids to us. We meet the kids and friends of one dad who came to pick up his kids in a truck. Two of them are beautiful twin teenage girls who speak some English.

Dinner is BBQ’d meat and bell pepper. The beef is tough but tastes alright. Then, since there is AC power, we watch Beasts of No Nation off my laptop. Tomorrow we will move on.

I've been traveling since I was born -- the first big trip was before I was two, across the Pacific, from my native Japan to Los Angeles on a cargo ship. There have been many journeys since then, through many continents and cultures.
